| *CHOPEACE.CO.UK PEACE REPORT FROM LONDON PART 5 29/MARCH/2003 To all my sisters and brothers, lovers of peace The only 'shock and awe' I saw last week was at the stupiity of the small handful of ego maniacs runnin the globe! 1500 cruise missle at 1 million dollars each, 1.5 biliion dollars of death and destructrion ?????madness I'm not the most intelligent three dimensional being around but i know you dont liberate people or make the world a better place by killing and terrorizing them, whether its Bush, Blair or Saddam, and if I'm wrong then truly there is no hope for humanity. If were gonna have a war, lets have a war againt hunger, poverty, and all the unjust happenings going on around the globe at the moment, this all seems like another war against the Third World, poorer countries, whos needs could be met if we didnt spend all our tax money on bombs and used it to improve peoples quality of life, both home and away. But what I've witnessed over the last week gave me optimism and hope again....... Last week in Londinium we had another historic day for true democracy, a word we may have to redefine with the current hegemony that seems to be going down. Approx 1million peoples gathered to say again 'not in our name!' showing our solidarity with all the similar protest happening around the world and to let the women, men and children of Iraq that we aint down with these gangstas who are runnin the show. The stop the war movement hasn't gone away now the conflict has started like many in politics and media world would like to believe or seem to report. This was the largest anti war demo once a war has broke out this country has ever seen! Young and old, all races, nationalities represented again for a peace rally that marched through London to a rally in Hyde Park to hear speeches from London Mayor Ken Livingston, Tony Benn, Tariq Ali, George Galloway. Through our civil disobedience we have witnessed, encouraged and achieved the resignations of many politicians who didn't support this illegal war, protesting school children and given the courage to lots of people for the first time, to get on the streets and protest for there beliefs, we are the true democracy when we protest, we support our country when its right and should oppose it when things are unjust. When we get together, speak and listen to other peoples at these events, we get information that doesn't get reported in the mainstream press, we learn more about the real picture of whats going down throughout our world. Our demos are seen to millions of peoples all over the Middle East and the rest of the world letting them know that the majority of ordinary people do not want this war, since the war started there have been many demos in all the major cities in America and throughout the whole world. We should not believe all the information, disinformation the mainstream media puts out as it only trys to make us support their war. The mainstream media are not sympathetic to any antiwar sentiment and don't give us balanced opinions and arguments. Unfortunately we don't all have the time on our hands to research the full picture but any effort we make adds up over the years to make the ambiguities in our reality more obvious, helping us get over our insecurities, fears and stopping us persecuting others so not to repeat history. Through protest, the underground media, film, music, internet and whatever means we have that get us 'behind the wiring of the boards of everything...' as Terrance Mckenna puts it, we will move closer towards creating a more fair world for all of its inhabitants. Just cause a few countries have the might, should not give them the right to bully other countries, cultures for there resources, America and the West constantly force their economic order, which already greatly dominates all corners of our planet. In the 21st century we should be aiming for peaceful ways to solve disputes. We should accept no other ways of solving our problems and battlin should always be a last option. big ups to all the schools kids who protested last week. As Tony Benn put it last weekend ' the people of the world are the only ones entitled to run it' . To all the people in Iraq I am ashamed what my Tony Blair is doing on behalf of Bush and in the name of the people of this country, all real intelligent people know these rulers are only trying to satisfy their personal ambitions and desires. we all live under the same sun, lets keep making our voices heard! peace chop xxx |
